I love eating salad.
Crunchy lettuce, flavorful homemade dressings, colorful vegetables, creamy beans… I’ve been creating tasty salads for decades. I learned long ago that mixing my own dressing and playing with fresh ingredients is fun, satisfying, and delicious. I have salad every day. I bring salad to potluck meals. I make salad while I’m camping. I make salad that’s a meal in itself, and salad that’s a dainty side dish. I love it all.
About Salad Play
Here you’ll find my current research. When I started this blog, years ago, my focus was on sharing my improvisations in great detail, so that my journey could inform your own.
Today, my goal is to keep myself eating and making salads. I’m wanting to keep this up for at least 100 consecutive days, five days a week. Current posts will be prolific (once a day, Monday through Friday) but not usually detailed–sometimes just a picture, perhaps a brief description. If you want detailed instructions and lists of ingredients, check the older posts where I’ll tell you how I make my various vinaigrettes and citronettes, and expound on the best methods for making salads.
Over time, I’ve found that excellent salads maintain consistent ratios of salt to sweet, sour to oil, crunch to creamy. They are juicy without being drippy. Good salads use fresh ingredients.
But you know what? It’s worthwhile to play with what you have on hand. Don’t be afraid to make it up as you go. Improvise. Be willing to take chances, to experiment, and to learn.
